DiverDiva is a unit from the Nijigasaki High School Idol Club, consisting of Karin Asaka and Ai Miyashita. They debuted in February 2020 with the single SUPER NOVA.

The members in each of the three initial Nijigasaki units were chosen from nine options in a poll.

Background

DiverDiva was formed when Ai proposed teaming up to her rival Karin. The goal of the unit is to compete with one another while performing on the same stage.[1]

In the game continuity, DiverDiva is formed as a unit from the Nijigasaki High School Idol Association in preparation for the School Idol Exhibition planned by Kaoruko Mifune. Mia Taylor wrote their debut song.

In the anime continuity, DiverDiva is the second Nijigasaki unit to form, and hold their debut performance at a solo event.

Etymology

"Diver" (ダイバー, Daibaa) originates from Odaiba, the town that Nijigasaki High School is located in.

The name DiverDiva was chosen by staff from fan submissions. Other names that were submitted for the group include "SoLuna" and "Beat Cats!!".
