Chika Takami is the protagonist of Love Live! Sunshine! and the leader of Aqours. She is a second-year student at Uranohoshi Girls' High School during the anime. Following the events of Love Live! Sunshine!! The School Idol Movie: Over The Rainbow, she transfers to Numazu High School. In addition to Aqours, she is also the leader of the subunit CYaRon! Her image color is mikan orange.

Background

Chika is the youngest daughter of the Takami family, who owns and operates a ryokan in Uchiura. She lives with her parents, her two older sisters (Shima and Mito) and their pet dog (Shiitake). She is childhood friends with Kanan Matsuura and You Watanabe. In the anime, Riko Sakurauchi and her family moves into the house neighboring Chika's ryokan. Her mother and her sisters both attended Uranohoshi.

Personality

As the leader of Aqours, Chika is characterized by her charisma and sociability, traits that lead her to push others toward realizing their potential. Chika's unwavering optimism and resilience are central to her character. Despite setbacks, such as receiving no votes in a Tokyo competition, she remains steadfast in her belief that perseverance can transform the ordinary into something extraordinary.

At the beginning of the series, Chika perceives herself as ordinary. This is especially true when she compares herself to her more accomplished childhood friends, You and Kanan. Her perspective shifts upon witnessing a performance by μ's in Akihabara, inspiring her to believe that with determination, even someone like her can achieve greatness. This revelation motivates her to form Aqours.

While Chika remains resilient and charismatic throughout the anime, she is tested by the challenges she faces. On a few occasions, she shows a far less cheerful side of herself. While she is endlessly optimistic, she is no less aware of the many people who rely on her and are counting on Aqours.

Chika is not traditionally "smart" in the academic sense, often struggling with schoolwork and coming off as clumsy or impulsive. She often acts very goofy or clueless.

Clubs and Hobbies

Chika is talented in horizontal bar, table tennis, and calligraphy. She also loves softball and going to karaoke booths.[1]

Appearance

Chika has short orange hair that falls just above her shoulders, usually styled with a small green hair clip on the left side. Her eyes are a warm, golden-brown color. She’s most often seen in her school uniform. Chika has a slim, petite build that reflects her active and energetic nature. Her expressions are full of life, frequently showing a big smile.

Etymology

The name Chika means "thousand" (千) (chi) and "song, poetry" (歌) (ka).

Chika's surname Takami means "tall, high" (高) (taka) and "sea, ocean" (海) (mi).[2]

Trivia

  • Chika's favorite food, mikan, is a kind of orange commonly grown in Shizuoka prefecture. Numazu specifically is known for a variety called jutaro mikan, and Chika has appeared in promotional material (and packaging) for this type of mikan.[3]
  • Chika was inspired to become a school idol after seeing μ's perform, especially admiring Honoka Kousaka.
  • When she was younger, Chika kept her hair longer. At some point, she decided it would be easier to maintain if she kept it short.[4]
