List of temporary and disbanded units

School idol groups typically either disband following the original members' graduations (as with μ's or Sunny Passion), or continue activities with the remaining members (Aqours, Hasunosora Girls' High School Idol Club). However, school idols may also choose to disband their groups prematurely.
In some cases, the groups may be planned as temporary from their conception; more frequently, however, conflict between the group's members is the cause of disbandment.
The following is a list of known temporary and/or disbanded school idol groups:
Love Live! School idol project
- The unnamed school idol group formed by Nico Yazawa and other Otonokizaka High School Idol Research Club members.
Love Live! Sunshine!!
- The original Aqours, a three-member school idol group consisting of Dia Kurosawa, Kanan Matsuura, and Mari Ohara which was disbanded after their failure to qualify for the Love Live!.
- Saint Aqours Snow, a joint unit formed between Aqours and Saint Snow in order to perform Awaken the power in the second season of the TV anime.
Love Live! Nijigasaki High School Idol Club
- The original Nijigasaki School Idol Club, which disbanded due to creative differences (other than Kasumi Nakasu).
- The Nijigasaki High School Idol Association, a splinter unit formed by Lanzhu Zhong in the second season of Love Live! School idol festival ALL STARS.
- The school idol unit formed by Ten Akamine and Koito Ishimine which dissolved following an interpersonal dispute.
Love Live! Superstar!!
- KeKa, the duo group featured in the TV anime episode of the same name, as well its insert song, "Tiny Stars".
- TomaKanoTe, a trio group formed by Kanon Shibuya with Tomari Onitsuka and Margarete Wien in the third season of the TV anime.
