Shizuku Osaka is a main character in Love Live! Nijigasaki High School Idol Club. She is a first-year student at Nijigasaki High School. She is a member of A・ZU・NA, a unit under Nijigaku, and was a member of the original group. Her image color is light blue.[1]

In Love Live! School Idol Festival ALL STARS, she was briefly a member of the Association.

Background

Shizuku formerly attended Seiran High School. Along with Kanata Konoe and Emma Verde, she works with the Love Live! School idol festival app.

She lives in Kamakura, far from Nijigasaki. Shizuku is an only child, and has a female golden retriever named Ophelia.

Shizuku is athletic, but she is poor at ball sports. She is heavily involved in acting and also participates in her school's theater club.

Personality

Shizuku is a sweet, polite, level-headed and mature honor student. She is considered a traditional Japanese beauty, and is quite timid at times. Despite her somewhat shy nature, however, she is also friendly and generally cheerful. She's also genuinely selfless and generous, as she offers to all the group to sleep at her home during the trip, and to study together, also helping Kasumi (who has somewhat low grades).

As seen in the Niji-Yon 4koma, she likes dogs. Shizuku can be easy to tease, however she is able to stand up for herself and others if teasing goes too far. She can sometimes be observed giving a stern talking-to to Kasumi, someone who is the opposite of Shizuku in terms of maturity.

Due to her responsible nature, Shizuku is also inclined to take on too much responsibility and keep her thoughts to herself. She worries about things quite often.

Shizuku is passionate about acting, and is very skilled at getting into character. She is also a fan of old movies and novels ever since she was little. However, this passion leaded her to be anxious because she felt she was the only child who liked these things, and due to this she was afraid to be seen as an oddball and be dismissed by her peers.

Another trait showing her kindness is that she is supportive yet doesn't want to burden others, a trait she shares with Emma Verde.

Clubs and Hobbies

Shizuku enjoys acting and performing in plays, and is a member of the school's theater club. During her days off she might spend 4 hours on personalized voice training, and on occasion might also imagine various ideas for plays that can be performed with the other girls. Shizuku has brainstormed fantasy scripts for The North Wind and the Sun from Aesop's Fables, and The Tale of Princess Kaguya.

Appearance

Shizuku has a slim figure with long dark brown hair that she ties into a half ponytail with a red ribbon and has light blue eyes.

Official Introduction from Website[2]
File:PDP Character Intro - Shizuku Osaka.png
Hello, everyone. I’m Shizuku Osaka.

I love performing in plays, so I joined the theater club here.
We make our own costumes, and regularly put on plays for the public.
I became a school idol to get better at acting. But recently, a senior student I respect encouraged me, saying “Let’s reach for a higher stage as school idols!”, and I had a realization.
Plays and school idol activities are very similar: people come to enjoy themselves, to be moved, and to have us put smiles on their faces.
So from now on, I’ll try even harder to become a better school idol!
With the acting skills I’ve learned from theater, I’ll work diligently to make everyone smile.
I may not know much about being a school idol yet, but I’d be happy if you came to see me trying my hardest!
I’ll be in your care!

Official Introduction from Love Live! School idol festival Website[3]

Good afternoon. Looking forward to working with you today!

Huh? You’re wondering if my theater club activities are fine? Yes, of course. Today’s a free day, so after we finish shooting this video, it’ll just be independent practice.

N-no, I’m not really that great. It’s just that I enjoy acting.

Besides, I think you’re more impressive than I am. After all, haven’t you spent a lot of time studying not only school idols, but myself as well?

Yup, I know. You’ve been to a lot of our theater club’s performances, right? I couldn’t forget your eyes shining as you were watching us.

Because I saw that you took me so seriously, and because that came through when you were trying your best to recruit me, I decided to work harder than ever at being a school idol.

Together with you, I want to strive to reach the stages you dream of. Acting and being a school idol: they certainly have their differences, but they’re alike in that we want to make the audience smile and enjoy themselves. I’ll absolutely be trying my best, so I’m looking forward to your guidance.

Hm? The classroom next to us is a little noisy, right? If we start filming like this, the noise is going to end up in the video... Ah, please continue setting up. I’ll be back after talking to them.

[Pause.]

Sorry to keep you waiting. There was an older student I didn’t know, so it was a little scary, but I managed to talk to them, and it seems like they got the message.

Actually, it kind of felt like they were also a little scared of me, but I’m probably imagining things, right? Anyway, let’s start on the video!

Question & Answer Corner[4]

What has been good about becoming a school idol?

I’d have to say that it’s the fact that I’ve been able to meet so many people. All the people cheering me on, the people working with us, and my fellow school idols too.

Everyone has been wonderful, and I’ve been lucky to be able to learn a lot.

I really am glad that I started being a school idol.

What should school idols keep in mind on a daily basis?

You have to be conscious of the importance of making your movements beautiful. Of course you have to keep that in mind for dancing, but being charming in your movements is something that’s needed in acting as well.

Actors in historical plays, for example, gesture elegantly, and even the most minute movements can snatch one’s attention without noticing! You could even say that the feeling is like that of water flowing down a stream, with nothing stopping—oh, I’m so sorry.

Once I get started talking about acting, it’s hard to stop myself...

What were your first impressions of the two you’re working with?

Umm, to be honest, when I first met Emma-san and Kanata-san, I thought they were the same age as me.

Now that I think back to that, I really have to say that I’m sorry.

But, now that I’ve worked with them, I’ve come to love the atmosphere that arises when we’re together.

Perhaps you could say that it’s because they’re like big sisters? There’s this tenderness when they’re around, and I end up feeling kind of like a spoiled kid.

What do you do in your day-to-day life?

I go to see plays, and watch DVDs of dramas and movies. And recently, I’ve been thinking that it’s important to have some time where I’m not thinking about acting, so I decided to take up that challenge.

Actually, we’ve been saying that we should all go on a picnic, and Emma-san promised that she’ll make us bentos with Swiss food!

It’ll be a lot of fun! ♪

What do you like to do?

Acting! Ah, I guess I can’t only say that... Umm...

Oh, right, I also like to sew. When making the costumes for our plays, it feels like I’m being useful... wait, we came back to the topic of acting... urgh...

Is there anything you’ve been obsessed with lately?

A little while ago, I was into collecting small Japanese-style accessories. The other day, we were working on a Taisho Romance play, and the accessories in the props were really cute! Being able to learn about worlds that I didn’t know much about is one of the fascinating parts of theater.

What do you like about yourself?

I only realized this recently, but perhaps it’s having the courage to leap into the world of school idols.

Now that I’m thinking about it, I was surprised that I had that kind of courage in me. I can’t help but be really grateful to the senpai that invited me to become a school idol.

What’s your dream?

Oh, umm, ah, er... well, s-someday I’d like to be a mom, and if I could let my child see a play I’m acting in... I’d be very happy. I’ve thought something like that once in a while. N-not that anything like that is going to happen soon! Oh gosh, my face is red...

How did you become interested in acting?

When I was a child, my mom took me to see a play for children. On that stage, the actors shone so brightly, and before I knew it, they really drew me into it.

After that, I thought that “I want to go up on stage like that!”, and that’s how I got started.

Unexpectedly, you’re bad at ball games.

My motor skills aren’t bad, I think, but no matter what, it seems that I’m only bad at ball games.

When the ball goes flying, you could say I get confused, and I can’t move like I want to. Whether it’s receiving during volleyball, or catching a pass during basketball, for some reason, the ball manages to hit my face every time...

Uh, please don’t laugh! Because I really do worry about it...

A message for everyone cheering you on, please!

Recently, I’ve been given this space to convey my words to everyone, bit by bit, and I’ve been able to communicate—in my own way—my efforts and feelings.

And I’ve been able to hear the voices of everyone who’s responded to what I’ve said here.

The voices of those who’ve cheered me on, those who’ve encouraged me, and—though it’s a little embarrassing—those who’ve said they like me.

I’ll concentrate on my work, so that I can become even more worthy of this support from everyone. This has been Shizuku Osaka, and I’ll be in your care!

Monthly Rankings (August 2017)[5]

Shocking, isn’t it?
Ahaha, I placed sixth last time, so when they told me I suddenly jumped up to third place, I was astonished.
To everyone who was so kind as to support me, thank you very much!
I’m so shocked and happy that the dialogue I worked so hard to memorize last night has completely disappeared from my mind.
Just kidding! Heheh. Ah, this happiness is the real deal.
Even though I’m inexperienced, there are so many people supporting me.
That makes me very happy, and it’s quite reassuring.
I’ll work diligently so that I can try to live up to everyone’s expectations, even if only a bit, so please continue supporting me!

Songs

The songs featuring Shizuku are:

Etymology

  • The name Shizuku is written in hiragana (しずく), which has no special meaning. However, when written in kanji (雫, 滴, 静紅, 静玖, 静空, 静久, 滴玖, 志津久 or 詩寿玖), it could possibly mean:
    • 雫 - "drop/droplet, drip, bead, drib/driblet, globule".
    • 滴 - "drop/droplet, drip, bead, drib/driblet, globule, blob".
    • 静紅 - "quiet" (静) (shizu) and "crimson, deep red" (紅) (ku).
    • 静玖 - "quiet" (静) (shizu) and "beautiful black jewel, nine" (玖) (ku).
    • 静空 - "quiet" (静) (shizu) and "sky" (空) (ku).
    • 静久 - "quiet" (静) (shizu) and "long time" (久) (ku).
    • 滴玖 - "drop/droplet, drip, bead, drib/driblet, globule, blob" (滴) (shizu) and "beautiful black jewel, nine" (玖) (ku).
    • 志津久 - "will, purpose" (志) (shi), "haven, port, harbor, ferry" (津) (tsu/zu) and "long time" (久) (ku).
    • 詩寿玖 - "poetry, poem" (詩) (shi), "longevity, congratulations, one's natural life" (寿) (tsu/zu) and "beautiful black jewel, nine" (玖) (ku).
  • Shizuku's surname Osaka means "cherry blossom" (桜) (o) and "slope, hill" (坂) (saka).

Trivia

  • Shizuku fulfills the cool attribute of the Nijigaku first years. According to her old N-Rarity cards in Love Live! School idol festival, she originally fulfilled the smile attribute.
  • Shizuku was originally introduced to Love Live! School Idol Festival mobile game exclusively as a N rarity character on April 16, 2013.
  • Prior to any announced plans of a new Love Live! project, Bushiroad held multiple seemingly inconsequential popularity polls on the LLSIF app in which participants could vote for their favorite N rarity character.
    • By the end of this campaign, Emma Verde finished in first place, Shizuku Osaka finished in second place, and Kanata Konoe finished in third place.
      • Later in 2017, when the Perfect Dream Project (temporary name of Love Live! School Idol Festival ALL STARS) was announced, Bushiroad revealed that the three N rarity characters with the most votes from the previous polls would be fleshed out and added as new school idols for the project.[1]
        • This included new artwork and designs that were more consistent with the style and quality typical for the main cast members in µ's and Aqours, as well as the promise of casting official voice actors.
  • Shizuku has a strong affinity for Audrey Hepburn; one of her songs is even themed around her wanting to be like Audrey.
