Emi Nitta is a female voice actress and singer, born on July 12, 1984, from Yaizu City, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan. Her nickname is Nanjolno. She voices Eli Ayase, one of the main characters in Love Live! School idol project.
Her call-and-response during concerts is 「私の名前は?」 (Watashi no namae wa? — “What is my name?”) with the audience responding : 「エリーチカ!」 (Eriichika! — “Elichika!”)
Background
She passed through RAMS, Dwango Artist Production (until 2011), Amuleto (from 2011 to the end of February 2015), Office EN-JIN (from March 2015 to the end of December 2018), and N3 Entertainment (from January 2019 to the end of November 2021). As of December 1, 2021, she is currently affiliated with Voice Kit.[1]
She has previously been active as the 2nd vocalist of fripSide, as well as a member of μ's. Along with Nana Mizuki (水樹奈々), she is one of the few voice actresses who has experienced topping the Oricon charts with both singles (as fripSide) and albums (as μ's).
The reason she decided to become a voice actress was the anime Cardcaptor Sakura and the character Li Syaoran (李小狼, voiced by Motoko Kumai くまいもとこ). During her junior high school days, she auditioned for a voice acting training school. Incidentally, she passed the audition but prioritized her studies at the time.
During her time at vocational school, when she was given the task of coming up with an original greeting for an assistant audition, she invented the greeting “Jonbo.”
Her mother is a former animator.
In April 2015, due to worsening knee problems, she suspended her live activities with μ's (though she continued to participate in song recording and fan meetings). She focused solely on fripSide’s live activities, which did not require intense dancing.
Even though μ's was set to make their first appearance in the 2015 year-end Kohaku Uta Gassen (紅白歌合戦), Nanjo missed the press conference due to her knee issues. Furthermore, on New Year’s Eve, she was scheduled to perform with fripSide at a countdown live in Yokohama starting at 10:00 pm, which raised concerns among fans. However, three days before the event, on December 28, she announced her withdrawal from Kohaku (though she participated as the voice of Eli Ayase (絢瀬絵里) in the original special animation video).
There was also concern about her participation in μ's’s final one-man live, “μ's Final LoveLive! ~μ’sic Forever♪♪♪♪♪♪♪♪♪~,” held at Tokyo Dome on March 31 and April 1, 2016. However, it was decided that she would perform on the condition that she would not participate in some songs, and she ultimately appeared as scheduled. With consideration for her knees, she limited her live performances mainly to new songs released after the 5th live, had other members handle the intense choreography, and increased the use of moving stages to minimize strain.
She graduated from fripSide in the spring of 2022. However, she continues to participate in events such as “Secret_Operation” as one of the former vocalists.
Personality & Hobbies
She is especially well known by the nickname Nanjolno” (ナンジョルノ; alternate spelling: なんじょるの). The person who gave her this nickname is Haruka Hitomi (春夏ひとみ), who was once with the same agency, and she reportedly likes this nickname. By the way, Yoshino Nanjo gave Hitomi Haruka the nickname “Hitton,” and they call each other by these nicknames. Recently, “Nanjolno” is often shortened to “Jolno” by fans.
She has several other nicknames as well: on the radio show Radio Da Capo II ~Hatsunejima Diary~ (ラジオ ダ・カーポII 〜初音島日記〜), she was called “Ojou” (お嬢) by Shintaro Asanuma (浅沼晋太郎); by her co-stars from Love Live!, Riho Iida and Aina Kusuda, as well as by sat, with whom she worked in fripSide, and by nao, the original vocalist of fripSide, she is called “Nan-chan” (なんちゃん). Additionally, she is called “Yoshinon” (よしのん) by Yurika Kubo. During her childhood, she was called “Yotchan” (よっちゃん).
She enjoys photography as a hobby and owns various cameras, from Polaroids to digital cameras. However, she doesn’t usually carry a camera around with her; most of the photos posted on her blog are taken with her mobile phone.
Among her special skills is illustration.
She is a huge cat lover. Her family home has a cat, and she occasionally posts photos of it on her blog. She lives alone and keeps two cats named “Mugi” (ムギ) and “Chibi” (ちび).
She is a member of the “Negati-bu” (ネガティ部, Negativity Club), chaired by Shintaro Asanuma (浅沼晋太郎).
She usually wears her hair short, but for certain events, she wears wigs.
Even before the term “Mori Girl” (森ガール, forest girl) became popular, she had been collecting clothing in that style, but once it became trendy, she found it harder to wear.
She usually wears glasses.
She seems to be the indoor type, which can be heard on her radio shows.
It is well known that she is close friends with voice actress Yurika Kubo. Yurika Kubo has even stayed over at Yoshino Nanjo’s family home.
On Twitter, an event called “Men Jolno” (麺ジョルノ, Noodle Jolno) is occasionally held spontaneously.
She is a heavy player of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn (FF14). She is so immersed in the game that she has said, “My true self is in Eorzea.” Her main character is Lalafell, primarily as a White Mage. Thanks to this connection, even though she has never appeared in the main game, she has served as a personality on the official FF14 radio program. Later, she achieved a voice acting role in the expansion Heavensward (“蒼天のイシュガルド” / “Souten no Ishgard”).
