Rurika Tsubaki is one of the main characters in Love Live! School Idol Musical. She is a second year member of the Tsubaki Takizakura Girls' High School Idol Club. Her image colour is Sky Blue.[1]
Background
At the start of her second year of high school, before the merger with Takizakura Girls' Academy, Rurika attended Tsubakisakuhana Girls' High School, a strict institution with a strong emphasis on academic excellence. The school was run by its chairwoman, Madoka Tsubaki, who is also Rurika’s mother. Madoka held high expectations for her daughter, hoping she would one day succeed her as chairwoman after retirement.
It was Anzu Takizawa's performances as an idol that inspired Rurika to take on a new path and pursue her dream of becoming an idol herself.
Personality
Rurika is bright and cheerful, always wearing a smile. Although she consistently ranks first in the weekly test results, she doesn’t see herself as especially smart.
She never breaks a promise, a value instilled in her by her parents. Paired with her upbeat personality, this strong sense of commitment can sometimes make her seem stubborn.
Rurika loves her mother deeply and doesn't like seeing her sad, which is why she devoted herself almost entirely to achieving top grades. Before she discovered idols, Hikaru noted that she had never shown interest in anything else.
Appearence
Rurika has long wavy desaturated brown hair with part of it being tied into small braids along the top of her head. Her sweet eyes are reddish-brown.
Etymology
- The name Rurika (ルリカ) is written in hiragana, therefore it has no set meaning. Her name may mean lapis lazuli (瑠璃, Ruri) and flower (花, Ka).
- Rurika's surname Tsubaki means "camellia" (椿).
Trivia
- Along with Anzu Takizawa, she is the fourth character whose mother is the director of the school she currently attends. The previous characters in order are Kotori Minami, Lanzhu Zhong, and Ren Hazuki.
- Rurika is also the second character in the Love Live! franchise whose father has been confirmed to be deceased. The first being Nico Yazawa.
