History

The role of Love Live! ANN personality was initially held by Emi Nitta (Love Live!Honoka Kosaka) and Sora Tokui (Love Live!Nico Yazawa) during its limited-time broadcasts. Later, Ai Furihata took over as the sole main personality from 2020. However, starting in the 2023 season, Aguri Onishi and Wakana Okuma joined as regular personalities.

A public vote was conducted to determine the unit’s name, and AiScReam was selected.

Before becoming regular personalities, Onishi and Okuma participated in the Love Live! ANN exclusive event, "Love Live! Series All Night Nippon GOLD: New Year's Thank You Culture Festival."

In March 2024, they hosted the MC segment after performing their songs at the "Unit Koshien" live event.

On June 28, 2024, during a broadcast of Love Live! ANN, it was announced that the group would temporarily be active as a unit and release music.

On January 22, 2025, AiScReam debuted with their first single, "Ai♡Scream!"

On February 1 & 2, 2025, they held their first live performance at the Asia Tour Yokohama show (K Arena), where they performed "Ai♡Scream!"

On March 28, 2025, Love Live! ANN aired its final episode. However, a new podcast series was announced.

Starting April 25, 2025, the podcast "Loveca Presents AiScReam's Melting Time" began streaming twice a month via Nippon Broadcasting System Podcast, Spotify, Amazon Music, and Apple Podcasts.

They also have a monthly column in the magazine Lovelive! Days, with all three members taking turns writing entries.

Etymology

The unit’s name has a triple meaning:

  • Inspired by the frozen treat, ice cream.
  • It includes the first letters of the characters played by its members (Ruby, Ayumu, Shiki).
  • Each of these characters has strong feelings of love (Ai) toward specific other characters (Ruby → Dia, Ayumu → Anata-chan & Yu Takasaki, Shiki → Mei Yoneme), leading to the meaning "screaming love" (Ai Scream).
