Etymology

R3BIRTH combines the English word "rebirth" and the number of members. The name represents the members rediscovering what it means to be an idol and being "reborn".^[1]

The unit's name was chosen by staff from fan submissions. The winning submission, R3BIRTH, was submitted by YouTuber and streamer RinTaichou.
